TaxFi

Privacy Policy

Last updated October 23, 2026

TaxFi is built so your financial records stay on your device. This policy explains what the app keeps on your device, the little it sends, and who handles it.

What stays on your device

Bank statements, transactions, categories, slips, your tax profile, your returns and your conversations with TaxFi are read and stored on your device, encrypted, and locked with Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode. We never receive them.

AI answers (on unless you turn them off)

TaxFi answers common questions on your device. A question it can't answer there is sent to TaxFi's service and from there to Anthropic, which provides the AI that writes the answer. You can turn this off in Settings, and then nothing is sent. What is sent:

  • your question, after the app removes emails, phone numbers, SINs and card or account numbers;
  • one line of context: your province, the tax year, the kind of filer you are, and your income and estimated tax rounded to the nearest hundred dollars;
  • a random install ID, so we can count questions against your monthly allowance.

We don't store your questions or answers. We keep only the install ID and how many questions it asked each month. Anthropic processes the question under its commercial terms and may keep it for a limited time for safety, but not to train its models. If you add your own Anthropic key, questions go straight to Anthropic under your own agreement with them.

Tax rule updates

TaxFi downloads updated tax rules from taxfi.ca so its figures stay current. The download carries nothing about you; like any website, our host Cloudflare sees your network address to deliver it. You can turn this off in Settings.

What we don't do

  • No accounts, sign-ups or bank logins.
  • No advertising, tracking or analytics, and no selling or sharing of data.
  • No crash or usage reports.

Who handles data for us

Cloudflare hosts taxfi.ca and TaxFi's service. Anthropic answers online questions. Purchases will be handled by Apple through the App Store.

Deleting your data

Your records live on your device: remove the app to delete them. Backups you export are files you control. There is no copy of your records on our servers to delete. To remove your install's question counts, email us.

Terms of Use

Last updated October 23, 2026

By using TaxFi you agree to these terms.

Not tax or legal advice

TaxFi helps you organize your finances and estimates your tax from your own records. It is not a substitute for a qualified accountant. Check every figure before you file with the CRA.

Your data

You own everything you import. Because it lives on your device, you are responsible for keeping backups.

Online answers

Answers written by AI can be wrong or out of date. Use them as a starting point, not as advice. Free use includes a monthly number of questions, which may change.

Subscriptions

Paid plans will be billed and renewed through the App Store. You'll be able to manage or cancel them in your Apple account.

Liability

TaxFi is provided as is. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for penalties, interest or losses resulting from use of the app.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada.

Support

We usually reply within one business day.

Common questions

Which banks does TaxFi support?

Any bank that gives you a PDF or CSV statement. TaxFi reads the file itself, so no bank login is needed.

Can I move my data to a new device?

In Settings, choose Back up now to save an encrypted backup protected by a passphrase, then Restore from backup on the new device.

Does TaxFi file my taxes?

Not yet. It prepares your return line by line and an accountant package to send to your accountant. Filing directly with the CRA needs certification we plan to apply for.

Does TaxFi work in Quebec?

The federal part, yes. Quebec's own provincial return isn't prepared yet, and TaxFi tells you so.

How do I cancel a subscription?

Paid plans will run through the App Store, so you'll cancel in your Apple account settings. Your data stays on your device either way.
